Frenectomy

Does Your Child’s Tongue or Lip Seem Restricted?

Frenectomy is a quick surgical procedure that involves the removal of a frenulum, which is a band of muscle that connects the lip, cheek, or tongue to the underlying gum tissue. This procedure is often used to treat tongue-tie, which occurs when the frenulum is too tight and causes difficulty with speech or eating. It can also be used to treat lip-tie, which occurs when the frenum becomes too tight and prevents proper lip closure.

Frenectomies at our office are performed using our Solea Laser. Laser frenectomies offer the advantage of reduced bleeding and swelling. The procedure is usually quick and painless and most patients experience only minimal discomfort. The recovery time for a frenectomy is usually short and most patients can resume normal activities within a few days. The healing process may take several weeks, however, and the doctor may recommend specific post-operative instructions such as avoiding certain foods and using a special mouthwash.

It is important for your child to have a tongue and or lip tie released in the occurrence that they have one. Their lives can be significantly impacted if this condition is left alone. Schedule your child’s frenectomy.
