Kids Dental Exam Fort Mill

Dental Exam For Kids

Oral hygiene is an integral part of protecting the child’s health. While regular brushing and flossing are vital, seeing the dentist every six months for a thorough inspection is important too. The inspection also gives an opportunity to ask questions about any development or issues you’ve encountered.

We will inspect your child’s teeth and gums at routine check-ups to see whether there is any tooth decay or gum disease. An X-ray is sometimes taken to enable the dentist to see the whole tooth, including the root.

When To Have a Dental Exam

Several factors, such as your child’s age, health, and risk of tooth decay, can influence how often he or she should have a dental exam. Consider the following general guidelines:

  • 6 months to 1-year-old: The American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry (AAPD) and GoKids Pediatric Dentistry proposes arranging a child’s first dental exam no later than the first birthday after the first tooth erupts. At the dental checkups, the baby’s teeth and gums will also be checked.
  • Toddlers, school-age children, and adolescents: The AAPD advises that children have routine dental checkups every six months. However, depending on your child’s risk factors for oral health issues, the dentist can prescribe fewer or more regular visits.
