Meet Us

Dr. Sonam Shah

Dr. Sonam Shah is originally from Augusta, GA, and her family moved to Fort Mill, SC while she was in college. She attended Emory University, where she majored in Neuroscience and Behavioral Biology. After undergrad, Dr. Shah went on to receive her Doctor of Dental Surgery from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 2014.

Dr. Shah realized that working with children, and especially helping those with special needs, was what she enjoyed most, and she decided to become a pediatric dentist. She completed her residency at Louisiana State University in New Orleans in 2016 to gain advanced pediatric training and education, which included training for in-office sedation, operating room cases, and treating children with special needs. She is an active member of the AAPD and the ADA.

In her free time, she enjoys swimming, traveling, and spending time with her family and her puppy dog, Benny.

Dr. Avey believes in making a positive impact on everyone he meets, by treating them with respect and an energetic smile. He believes every specialist needs to exemplify knowledge, skill, judgment, integrity, and compassion because, without any of these, our patients cannot have the very best care.

Dr. Avey also believes in educating and investing in our community to share the knowledge and experience he has gained over his career. He believes in adopting the best technology available and leveraging digital tools to maximize clinical efficiency and patient comfort. This allows us to be innovative and modern in our approach to orthodontics.

Dr. Avey believes in creating stunning, custom-designed smiles that not only enhance facial esthetics, but improve function, stability, and overall oral health. Finally, he believes in a true team approach, and strives to surround himself with the smartest and most caring people so we can all strive towards the same goal.

Background & Education

Originally from Ontario, Canada, Dr. Avey moved to Florida with his family as a young child. He was fortunate to have a great orthodontist when growing up and his time in orthodontic treatment was positively life-changing. His goal since then was always to become an orthodontic specialist so that he could share that experience with others. He attended Florida State University in Tallahassee, Florida for his undergraduate studies and is an avid fan of college sports (Go ‘Noles!).

Dr. Avey achieved his bachelor’s degree in biological sciences, chemistry, and physics. He was also proud to contribute to original genetic research funded by the American Cancer Society. He received his dental education at Nova Southeastern University in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, and was elected to serve as class president and student body president.He graduated at the top of his class, and was recognized for his leadership and dedication to the profession with the Chancellor’s Award for Excellence.

Dr. Avey was also inducted into the Omicron Kappa Upsilon National Dental Honor Society. He completed his orthodontic residency at West Virginia University in Morgantown, West Virginia.There, he was able to learn from distinguished faculty and gain experience with many cutting edge orthodontic techniques, including mini-implant TADs, accelerated tooth movement, and 3D imaging.  Upon graduation, Dr. Avey received his Certificate in Orthodontics, as well as his Master’s degree for his research thesis studying the effects of jaw position on breathing and sleep apnea.

Outside Office

Outside the office, you can find Dr. Avey spending time with his wife, Katie and their children, James and Juliette. They live in the Mason’s Bend community of Fort Mill and absolutely love their neighborhood! His family is his biggest passion, and he believes no success in the world would be worth it without their constant love and support.

They love to go out to eat (SPICE and NAPA are always top contenders!), travel to new places and spend time outside. They enjoy camping, hiking, snow sports, and kayaking down the Catawba River. Dr. Avey believes that family is one of the most important aspects of a fulfilled life, and he is incredibly excited to be a part of the GoKids Pediatric Dentistry family.

Dr. Athena Kabouris, DMD

Dr. Kabouris earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Biology and minor in Psychology from the Northeastern University in Boston, MA, and a Doctor of Dental Medicine degree from Tufts University School of Dental Medicine also in Boston, MA. After finishing her GP residency at the Long Island Jewish Medical Center in New York, she joined the Mount Sinai Health System in New York, NY, in 2020 and earned the distinction of completing a residency in Pediatric and Orthodontic dentistry. Dr. Kabouris has wanted to be a dentist ever since she was a little girl. She was inspired by her own pediatric dentist and wanted to replicate her wonderful experience for others. She is a lover of ice cream, the color pink and spends her free time exercising and enjoying the company of her husband and their son, Michael and daughter, Elena.'

Dr. Jordan Gray, DDS

Dr. Jordan Gray is a general dentist who loves helping children build healthy smiles and positive dental experiences. With over seven years of experience working with pediatric patients, she has a special passion for caring for children and families in need. Her background has strengthened her dedication to making dental visits welcoming, gentle, and reassuring for every child.
As someone who was once an anxious pediatric patient herself, Dr. Gray has a personal commitment to helping nervous children feel at ease and develop confidence at the dentist. She takes pride in building trust with her patients and making each visit a positive one. Outside the office, she enjoys spending time with family and friends, cooking, trying new foods, and painting.
